The Saab 600 was only ever sold in Sweden and Norway. It was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and was a front-wheel drive hatchback with a rallying pedigree. Saab helped with the design of the Delta/600 and as a result of this input from Scandinavia, both the Saab-Lancia 600 and the Lancia Delta had a better resistance to rust than most Italian cars and were better suited to a cold climate. The 600 was developed because Saab did not have the finances to support the production of an entirely new model and looked to other companies in order to provide a new model line-up. Saab sold three 1500cc versions, a base model, a GL and a GLS although you could find an exclusive GLE version which only appeared in very small numbers.
